For my second child

Little love, we climbed into the bath together this evening, just us two, about 10 minutes before your big sister plopped her little grubby body down in there with us. We had 10 minutes to spend together, just us, in the sweet silence that is a content 10 month old baby, with the occasional whisper of, “dadada”. We sat in the warm water, which is your most favourite place to be, and I felt your weight fall into me. You snuggled up to my chest, you got your legs comfortable over mine, and I kissed your head as your tiny fingers tried to catch bubbles. I watched your hands open and shut, and I noticed how fascinating the shiny floating bubbles and the gentle splashing sounds must be to you. I squeezed you tight. Having a moment with just you and I is rare in these days. What a glorious 10 minutes to have you and only you embraced in both of my arms, getting to really feel myself fall deeper in love with you.
